Janie McCoy is the new police secretary for Upper Makefield Township in Bucks County, PA. She has just moved from Tennessee with her Tennessee coonhound, Elvis, to start a new life. A young woman who calls herself “Charlotte” keeps calling the police station asking for help. The woman gives an address but when the police investigate, they find that there is no such address anywhere in the township. Janie decides to investigate, and soon learns that the woman who is calling the police for help is a ghost.

Minnow
It has been six months since Erin Wyatt’s two-year old daughter, Daisy, drowned in a tragic boating accident with her father. Their bodies were never found. Erin walks the sandy beaches of New Jersey with her yellow lab, Dakotah, trying to come to terms with the loss of her only child.

One day Dakotah sees something far out on one of the jettys. Erin follows the dog out to the end and discovers the unconscious body of a child – a little girl, three or four years old, with long red hair. She is completely naked. Her small body had become wedged high up on the rocks, otherwise she would have drowned.

Erin wraps the child in her sweater and carries her home. Examining the little girl, Erin notices that her hair is filled with seaweed and tiny shells, and there are strange barnacles all over her body. She places the child in her kitchen sink to wash her, and when she does this, the child jerks suddenly and awakens. She gazes at Erin with the most beautiful, deep green eyes that Erin has ever seen – and slowly changes before her eyes. From the child’s waist down, tiny pink and turquoise scales appear, and her small legs melt together as if they have never been legs at all. When a small tail fluke appears, Erin realizes the truth.

The child is a mermaid.
